JAKARTA, Investortrust.id — Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BBRI), the country’s largest lender by assets and a specialist in microfinance, is seeing its digital transformation pay off as its flagship super app, BRImo, cements its position as a dominant force in the Indonesian fintech landscape.
By the end of December 2025, BRImo’s user base climbed to 45.9 million, marking an 18.9% increase compared to the previous year. This rapid adoption is fueling a massive spike in activity, with the bank processing Rp 7,076.9 trillion ($445.1 billion) in transactions through the app in 2025 alone, a 26.4% jump from the prior period.
The sheer volume of capital moving through BRImo—approaching half a trillion dollars—signals that digital banking has moved beyond a secondary service to become the primary engine of Indonesian commerce. For global investors, BRI’s ability to migrate its massive rural and micro-merchant base into a high-margin digital ecosystem is a critical validator of the bank's long-term profitability and its defense against nimble neobanks.
A Digital Lifestyle Ecosystem
Saladin D. Effendi, BRI’s Director of Information Technology, noted that the performance highlights a fundamental shift in how Indonesians interact with their finances. In a written statement on Saturday, April 11, 2026, he emphasized that the app has evolved into a digital lifestyle hub rather than a mere payment tool. The bank is now doubling down on feature relevancy to ensure the platform remains the "go-to" partner for users at every stage of their lives.
To capture the growing demand for wealth management among the middle class, BRI recently integrated a gold installment feature in partnership with state-owned gold refiner and lender Pegadaian. This tool allows users to begin investing in gold from as little as 0.5 grams with a down payment of just 15%. Saladin explained on Friday, April 10, 2026, that this integration is part of a broader push to provide a seamless, all-in-one financial environment that handles everything from basic cash withdrawals to sophisticated asset building.
Targeting the Next Generation
The bank is also strategically positioning BRImo as a vital tool for the younger "Gen Z" demographic by streamlining high-stakes administrative tasks. BRI recently simplified the payment process for the National Selection Based on Test (UTBK SNBT), the country's ultra-competitive entrance exam for state universities.
By removing the need for students to visit physical branches or wait in line at ATMs, BRI is building brand loyalty with millions of future professionals at a pivotal moment in their lives. Saladin remarked on Saturday that this focus on ease and security is essential for fostering financial inclusion and ensuring the bank remains adaptive to rapid technological shifts.
