JAKARTA, Investortrust.id — The Embassy of India in Jakarta hosted the India-Indonesia Golf Cup 2025 at Pondok Indah Golf Club on Saturday, Aug. 23, 2025, with 144 participants competing in the third edition of the annual amateur tournament.
Indian Ambassador to Indonesia Sandeep Chakravorty emphasized that the event was not just a sporting occasion but also a platform to strengthen bilateral ties. He noted that golf, which enjoys strong popularity in Indonesia, serves as a bridge of friendship between the two nations.
“Yes, this is indeed the third India-Indonesia Golf Cup. Last year, we organized a tournament to celebrate the 75th anniversary of India-Indonesia relations, and this year we are doing it again,” Chakravorty said.
The ambassador underlined that the tournament was designed as a networking and partnership event rather than a serious competition. “With the enthusiasm it generates, I think everyone looks forward to the India-Indonesia Golf Cup. This year it is even bigger. It is not about competitive golf, it is about friendship, about partnership,” he added.
Symbol of Unity and Soft Diplomacy
Chakravorty described India and Indonesia as “forever partners,” cooperating across sectors ranging from economy and security to food resilience. He stressed that the golf tournament symbolized this enduring collaboration.
Chairman of the Regional Representative Council (DPD) Sultan Bachtiar Najamudin, who attended the event, said the initiative reflected an effective form of diplomacy. “This is part of diplomacy. Sometimes diplomacy in this softer model works better, and the relationship between Indonesia and India is already very strong,” Sultan said.
