"For over eight decades, the Indonesian press has stood as a crucial pillar of democracy, voicing the truth and delivering accurate information to the public," President Prabowo stated in his remarks, broadcast on the Presidential Secretariat's official YouTube channel.
The president expressed appreciation for the dedication of journalists and media professionals who continue working on the front lines despite mounting challenges. "Indonesian media must always prioritize the interests of the nation, the state, and the people. It must remain vigilant against efforts to control public thought and influence opinions through significant financial means," he asserted.
The Threat of Misinformation and Division
President Prabowo highlighted the growing threats of misinformation, hate speech, and divisive narratives that could destabilize the country. He urged journalists to remain steadfast in their national values and to uphold Pancasila—the nation’s foundational philosophy—as their guiding principle in reporting.
"While we strongly uphold press freedom, we must remain alert to the spread of false information, hoaxes, and hate speech that could sow distrust among citizens and fracture national unity. This must always be a point of vigilance," he stressed.
A Press That Strengthens the Nation
The president underscored the crucial role of responsible journalism in advancing Indonesia’s development. He expressed confidence that the Indonesian press will remain true to the ideals of the nation's founders and continue contributing to national progress.
"The Indonesian press must embody Pancasila values, actively participate in nation-building, and stay committed to the integrity of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia," Prabowo concluded.
