Indikator Survey: 79.3% of Indonesians Approve of President Prabowo’s Performance
JAKARTA, Investortrust.id – A recent survey conducted by Indikator Politik Indonesia reveals that a significant majority of Indonesians are satisfied with President Prabowo Subianto's performance. As the Prabowo-Gibran administration nears its first 100 days, 79.3% of respondents expressed satisfaction with the president’s leadership.
"Of those surveyed, 13.5% said they were very satisfied, while 65.8% reported being somewhat satisfied, bringing the total to 79.3% during the survey period from Jan. 16 to Jan. 21," said Burhanuddin Muhtadi, Executive Director of Indikator Politik Indonesia, on Monday, Jan. 27, 2025.
High Approval Compared to Previous Administrations
According to Muhtadi, 16.3% of respondents said they were less satisfied with the president’s performance, while only 0.6% expressed total dissatisfaction. These approval ratings surpass those recorded during the early days of former President Joko Widodo’s administration in 2014.
Despite initial concerns about an increase in Value-Added Tax (VAT), which was ultimately applied only to luxury goods (from 11% to 12%), public approval of Prabowo remained robust.
Key Drivers of Satisfaction
Muhtadi noted that respondents identified Prabowo’s decisiveness, wisdom, courage, and authority as significant contributors to his high approval ratings. Additionally, improvements in anti-corruption efforts were widely praised.
"This indicates that the performance of law enforcement agencies, particularly in combating corruption, has positively influenced public satisfaction with the president’s work," he said.
Areas for Improvement
However, 16.9% of respondents expressed dissatisfaction, with 44.7% citing a lack of tangible results, 14% pointing to unrealized programs, and 13.1% attributing their dissatisfaction to the administration’s short time in office.
On broader issues, public approval for Prabowo-Gibran’s efforts to foster national unity stood at 89%, while their performance in maintaining religious tolerance was rated positively by 88%.
Economic Challenges
Public sentiment regarding economic issues, however, was less favorable. A significant 42% of respondents felt the administration had not succeeded in reducing unemployment, while 51% rated its performance in this area as poor or very poor. Additionally, efforts to create jobs and alleviate poverty received positive evaluations from less than half of respondents.
"Creating jobs and reducing poverty remain areas where public perception is less favorable, with positive evaluations falling below 50%," Muhtadi added.
The survey, conducted from Jan. 16 to Jan. 21, 2025, involved 1,200 respondents selected through multistage random sampling. The survey was conducted via interviews, with a margin of error of ±2.9% and a confidence level of 95%.
