BARCELONA, Investortrust.id — Telkomsel, Indonesia’s dominant digital telecommunications provider, has signed a high-stakes strategic agreement with global tech giant Huawei at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2026. The partnership aims to aggressively scale 5G infrastructure, stabilize home broadband, and inject Artificial Intelligence into the nation’s daily connectivity.
This deal marks a pivotal shift for Indonesia as it transitions from basic connectivity to an AI-integrated digital ecosystem. For global investors, the move signals that Telkomsel (TSEL), the mobile arm of state-owned Telkom Indonesia, is doubling down on high-margin 5G and B2B services to maintain its market lead. By leveraging Huawei’s cutting-edge hardware, Telkomsel is positioning itself to capture the lion's share of Indonesia's $130 billion digital economy projected for 2030.
Next-Gen Infrastructure and AI Integration
The partnership centers on the integration of hybrid fiber and 5G technologies to eliminate the "blank spots" that have long plagued the Indonesian archipelago. Telkomsel Planning & Transformation Director Wong Soon Nam stated that the collaboration will deploy Embedded AI and Self Wi-Fi Optimization to ensure residential internet remains stable for high-bandwidth activities like gaming and remote work.
Huawei’s contribution includes the MetaAAU 64T64R hardware, which significantly boosts network capacity and coverage consistency during peak traffic hours. This hardware will be supported by "Golden Intelligent Clusters" designed to manage spectrum efficiency and power distribution across dense urban centers.
Transforming the Voice Experience
Beyond raw speed, the two companies are set to disrupt traditional calling services by introducing AI-powered 5G features. These include real-time "smart translation" during calls, interactive avatars, and advanced noise-canceling subtitles.
Li Endong, Telkomsel Account Director at Huawei Indonesia, noted that the use of Intelligent Personalized Experiences (IPE) will allow for a "Guaranteed Bit Rate." This ensures that premium users and critical business applications maintain high-quality video and voice feeds even when the broader network is under heavy load.
A Blueprint for Digital Sovereignty
A significant portion of the agreement focuses on the human element through a dedicated digital talent program. This initiative will train Indonesian workers in 5G management, Fixed Mobile Convergence (FMC), and B2B digital solutions using cloud-based platforms.
The move aligns with the "Digital Indonesia Vision 2045," a government roadmap aimed at transforming the country into a global tech powerhouse. By training local talent on Huawei’s specialized systems, Telkomsel is ensuring that its infrastructure expansion is sustainable and managed by a high-skilled domestic workforce.
