JAKARTA, Investortrust.id — Indonesia has reaffirmed its strong commitment to achieving net zero emissions (NZE) by 2060 or earlier, pledging inclusive and fair collaboration to accelerate its green transition at the 30th Conference of the Parties (COP30) in Belem, Brazil.
Special Envoy of the President for Climate and Energy Hashim Djojohadikusumo, representing President Prabowo Subianto at the Leaders Summit, said Indonesia came to Belem with a clear message of action and cooperation.
"Indonesia arrives in Belem with a clear message: we remain steadfast in strengthening our national climate agenda and are ready to cooperate with all nations to realize concrete, inclusive, and ambitious climate action," Hashim said on Thursday, Nov 13, 2025.
He explained that President Prabowo has reaffirmed Indonesia’s adherence to the Paris Agreement target of achieving NZE by 2060 or sooner. The administration, he added, aims for 8% annual economic growth through a sustainable development strategy implemented consistently across sectors.
In its Second Nationally Determined Contribution (SNDC), Indonesia targets a 1.2–1.5 gigaton reduction in carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e) emissions by 2035. This will be supported by raising the renewable energy mix to 23% by 2030 and exploring new technologies, including nuclear power, as part of the green transition.
“Recently, President Prabowo enacted Presidential Regulation No. 109 on Waste to Energy and Presidential Regulation No. 110 on Carbon Economic Value. These two regulations form a crucial foundation for Indonesia’s national decarbonization framework and for strengthening greenhouse gas mitigation,” Hashim noted.
Minister of Environment and Head of the Environmental Control Agency Hanif Faisol Nurofiq echoed this commitment, stressing that Indonesia’s green transformation must be both equitable and profitable.
“COP30 is our opportunity to prove that green development is not only possible but also beneficial. Indonesia’s leadership is built on tangible action, not promises,” Hanif said.
He emphasized that climate justice must underpin every energy transition policy. “Climate justice means ensuring that no one is left behind. Indonesia is ready to lead by example, integrating policy, science, and social values for a better future,” he stated.
Meanwhile, PT PLN (Persero) President Director Darmawan Prasodjo said the state electricity company stands ready to deliver President Prabowo’s energy transition vision through its 2025–2034 Electricity Supply Business Plan (RUPTL).
“About three months ago, under the direction of President Prabowo Subianto and Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia, Indonesia launched a new RUPTL. Over the next decade, the country targets to add 69.5 gigawatts (GW) of new power capacity, around 76% of which will come from renewable energy and storage,” Darmawan said.
Pertamina to Lead Sustainable Aviation Fuel Push
At the same COP30 forum, Indonesia also positioned itself as a potential regional leader in sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), naming PT Pertamina (Persero) as the key driver of its green energy transformation.
Deputy Speaker of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) Eddy Soeparno described SAF as a strategic investment to boost industrial competitiveness, enhance energy resilience, and reinforce Indonesia’s leadership in global decarbonization.
“Developing SAF is not just about cutting emissions—it’s about strengthening the national economy,” Eddy said during a talk show titled Accelerating Sustainable Fuel: Focusing on Used Cooking Oil and Its Potential to Be Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) at the Indonesia Pavilion, COP30, on Tuesday, Nov 12, 2025.
Eddy noted that Indonesia produces about 715 kilotons of used cooking oil (UCO) annually, yet only 20–30% is currently collected. “Our mission is clear—to ensure Indonesia’s SAF initiative is not a pilot project but a national commitment to empower Pertamina as the regional leader in sustainable fuels,” he said.
Deputy Minister for Infrastructure Connectivity at the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs Odo R.M. Manuhutu added that the government is drafting a roadmap for airlines to use at least 1% SAF by 2027.
“The transport sector is one of the top three contributors to national emissions. SAF will be a vital component of Indonesia’s decarbonization strategy,” Odo said, adding that 1% of transport and energy revenues will be allocated to SAF research and production.
Pertamina’s SAF initiative builds upon its successful B40 biodiesel program and represents a broader shift toward circular economy practices — converting household waste oil into high-value renewable energy.
Pertamina Director of Transformation and Business Sustainability Agung Wicaksono said the company is ready to ramp up SAF production capacity in line with government mandates. “Pertamina fully supports the government’s initiative to tackle climate change through SAF production,” he stated.
Pertamina Vice President of Corporate Communication Muhammad Baron emphasized that SAF also supports Indonesia’s compliance with the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA).
“SAF is the fuel of the future. Pertamina is committed to producing high-quality SAF to help airlines meet global CO₂ reduction targets,” Baron said.
Through its SAF and renewable energy programs, Pertamina is directly contributing to Indonesia’s Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) goals, strengthening the country’s leadership in Southeast Asia’s energy transition.
