JAKARTA, Investortrust.id — The 48th anniversary of Indonesia’s capital market reopening has carried the theme “Building an Independent, Sovereign, and Advanced Economy Together,” underscoring its role as a pillar of economic stability.
Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the Financial Services Authority (OJK) Mahendra Siregar said the theme reflects the regulator’s commitment to supporting the government’s Asta Cita program through strengthening the market’s function in driving economic self-reliance.
He noted that the capital market plays a key role in expanding public access to investment, reinforcing national economic sovereignty, and accelerating the transformation toward a prosperous, advanced, and modern Indonesia.
“This theme is also in line with the Independence Day theme this year — ‘United, Sovereign, Prosperous People, Advanced Indonesia,’” Mahendra said at the Main Hall of the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) on Monday, Aug. 11, 2025.
Mahendra said the nearly half-century journey of Indonesia’s capital market reflects its readiness and endurance in facing domestic and global challenges. The anniversary is not merely ceremonial, but also a moment of historical reflection on the market’s contribution to national economic growth.
He acknowledged that global uncertainty remains high, with prolonged tight monetary policies in advanced economies, escalating geopolitical tensions, and increasingly unpredictable trade conditions.
Despite these challenges, Indonesia’s economy expanded 5.12% year-on-year in the first half of 2025, which Mahendra said demonstrates the country’s strong economic foundation.
“Indonesia’s capital market has played an important role in supporting economic stability. Even though it faced heavy pressures in the second quarter and early this year, we can see that it has continued to show resilience and adaptability,” he said.
Mahendra stressed that the robustness of the country’s market infrastructure reflects the shared commitment of stakeholders to maintain stability and certainty, “even under increasingly challenging external conditions.”
