JAKARTA, Investortrust.id — Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa says it is not yet the right time to establish a State Revenue Agency, a plan that has resurfaced in the revised 2025 Government Work Plan.
“I have not been thinking about forming a State Revenue Agency,” Purbaya said during the September 2025 edition of the APBN KiTa media briefing at the Ministry of Finance in Jakarta on Monday, Sept 22, 2025.
Looking toward Deputy Finance Minister Anggito Abimanyu, Purbaya added that any move to create the agency would depend on discussions with and instructions from President Prabowo Subianto. “For now, I don’t see the need, at least until everything becomes more stable,” he said.
Purbaya stressed that the immediate focus remains on maximizing revenue collection through the Directorate General of Customs and Excise and the Directorate General of Taxes. If these efforts fall short, then establishing a new agency may be considered.
“But for now, it is not the right time. There are still weaknesses in the systems, both in taxation and customs, that can be improved,” he explained.
At the same event, Purbaya also commented on global economic conditions, saying they were not as dire as previously feared. “The recovery has begun, though in my estimate it will take a long time,” he said.
He noted that global manufacturing activity has returned to expansion, with the Global Manufacturing PMI reaching 50.9. “The trend appears to keep improving,” he added.
