Airlangga Holds Virtual Talks with US Treasury Secretary on Tariff Policy
JAKARTA, Investortrust.id – Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto held a virtual meeting with US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent on Wednesday evening, June 25, 2025, to discuss the status of Washington’s proposed reciprocal tariffs on Indonesian goods.
The discussion follows a series of diplomatic exchanges and document submissions aimed at addressing US trade concerns. Speaking to reporters in Jakarta on Thursday, Airlangga said the meeting was constructive and that the US side had no additional requests.
“Indonesia wanted feedback—what expectations remain on the US side,” said Airlangga. “They told us the documents we’ve submitted already reflect America’s interests.”
According to Airlangga, Indonesia has communicated extensively with the Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR), and also held discussions with US Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick.
“Now we’re waiting to see how they relay the matter within their government,” he said.
The final decision, he noted, lies with the highest political leadership. President Prabowo Subianto has already spoken with US President Donald Trump in a call last week.
“Talks have taken place both between ministers and between presidents,” Airlangga said. However, he declined to give a timeline for when the tariff issue will be resolved. “We’ll wait for the next development,” he added.
