Prabowo-Erdogan Meeting Poised to Open a New Chapter in Indonesia-Türkiye Strategic Partnership
JAKARTA, investortrust.id – The upcoming meeting between President Prabowo Subianto and President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Jakarta on Wednesday, Feb 12, 2025, marks a new chapter in Indonesia-Türkiye relations, strengthening a strategic partnership that has spanned 75 years.
Indonesian Ambassador to Türkiye Achmad Rizal Purnama emphasized that this partnership goes beyond bilateral interests, contributing to a more stable global order. He expressed hope that the meeting would yield tangible benefits for both nations, aligning with the diplomatic milestone's tagline: "Partnership for the People, Partnership for the New World."
Economic collaboration remains the cornerstone of this relationship, with the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) and the Turkish Foreign Economic Relations Board (DEIK) playing key roles in fostering business ties.
Kadin Indonesia Chairman Anindya Novyan Bakrie highlighted that the discussions between the two leaders would focus on strategic sectors, including manufacturing, healthcare, energy, and defense. He noted that the economic potential between Indonesia and Türkiye is vast, offering numerous opportunities for future cooperation.
Dogan Karadinez, Board Member of Karpowership and the Turkish-Indonesian Business Council (DEIK), expressed optimism about the strengthening business ties between the two nations. He acknowledged Kadin's role in facilitating partnerships and noted that both Indonesia and Türkiye are well-positioned to play a significant role in the global economy.
Trade between Indonesia and Türkiye has shown steady growth, reaching over $3 billion in 2024. According to Ambassador Rizal, both nations are projected to emerge as major global economies by 2050, with Indonesia ranking as the world's fourth-largest economy and Türkiye securing the tenth position.
Data from Indonesia's Statistics Agency (BPS) and the Ministry of Trade reported that bilateral trade between Indonesia and Türkiye totaled $2.39 billion from January to December 2024, with Indonesia recording a trade surplus of $1.47 billion.
The Prabowo-Erdogan meeting is expected to accelerate collaboration across multiple sectors, reinforcing Indonesia and Türkiye’s commitment to economic growth, technological advancement, and geopolitical stability.
