Prabowo Attends India’s Republic Day Parade
JAKARTA, investortrust.id – Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto attended the 76th Republic Day parade of India as the chief guest at Kartavya Path, New Delhi, on Sunday, Jan 26, 2025.
Prabowo arrived at the venue in a horse-drawn carriage alongside Indian President Droupadi Murmu at approximately 10:00 AM local time. Upon arrival, he greeted Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other high-ranking Indian officials.
A Symbolic and Historic Moment
Prabowo ascended the saluting base, where India’s national anthem was performed, accompanied by a 21-gun salute.
The parade, which began earlier in the morning, continued with various displays. From the podium, Prabowo, dressed in a gray beskap and a black peci, saluted the marching contingents.
One highlight was the performance by Indonesia’s military contingent, comprising 352 personnel, including the Genderang Suling Canka Lokananta (GSCL) marching band from the Indonesian Military Academy. The contingent showcased their unity, discipline, and military prowess while performing "Maju Tak Gentar."
This marked the first time an Indonesian contingent participated in a national day parade outside the country, a source of pride for President Prabowo, who saluted the group with a proud expression as they passed by.
Strengthening Historical Ties
In a speech delivered during a state banquet hosted by President Murmu on Friday, Jan 25, 2025, Prabowo expressed deep gratitude for India’s warm invitation and hospitality.
He reflected on the historical connection, noting that Indonesia’s first President, Sukarno, was the chief guest at India’s first Republic Day celebration in 1950.
“I am truly honored because at India’s first Republic Day, the guest of honor was also the President of the Republic of Indonesia, our first president and proclaimer of independence, President Sukarno. This is a great honor,” Prabowo said.
He further added, “I feel like I am following in the footsteps of the founding father of the Republic of Indonesia. I must share with you all that this visit, though brief at only four days, has been incredibly productive.”
