JAKARTA, Investortrust.id — On Tuesday, Aug 5, 2025, the Indonesian government said it is evaluating a potential ban on Roblox, the globally popular gaming platform, in an effort to protect children from exposure to violent content and inappropriate language online.
The idea was first raised by Minister of Primary and Secondary Education Abdul Mu’ti during a school visit, where he urged students to avoid playing the game. His concerns were echoed by Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs Angga Raka Prabowo, who said the move aligns with the government’s broader commitment to safeguarding the country’s youth in digital spaces.
“The spirit of the minister's concern is one we all share. We want to protect our children from negative influences in the digital world,” Angga said at a press briefing in Jakarta.
Angga emphasized that the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs (Kemenkomdigi) is prepared to take firm action, including platform restrictions, if any violations of national regulations are found.
“We already have regulatory mechanisms in place. There’s the Directorate General for Supervision and Education, and today we also have the PP Tunas, which specifically aims to protect digital users, especially children,” said the Gerindra Party politician.
He also reminded parents of their critical role in monitoring children’s gaming activity, as not all games are age-appropriate.
“As a parent myself, I believe it’s essential to supervise what our children are exposed to. Games come with age-based classification systems. We are investigating this closely,” he said.
“If it is proven that the game contains elements that breach our norms or regulations, then the state must intervene to protect our younger generation.”
Education Minister Warns Students
During a visit to SDN Cideng 2 for a free health check event, Education Minister Abdul Mu’ti specifically told students not to play Roblox, claiming it contains violent and inappropriate content.
“If you play with your phone, don’t watch violent content or anything with bad language. That block-block game [Roblox]—don’t play that one, okay? It’s not good for you,” he told the students.
The government has yet to issue a final decision. Kemenkomdigi is currently reviewing evaluations and reports regarding the game.
“We will conduct a more thorough evaluation while prioritizing child protection. If there is clear evidence of harmful influence and if it crosses the line, we will not hesitate to block it,” said State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi.
