JAKARTA, Investortrust.id — PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia Tbk, or BBRI, has officially expanded its international footprint to Taiwan and East Asia with the opening of BRI Taipei Branch at No. 166, Sec. 3, Nanjing East Road, Zhongshan District, Taipei City. The move is part of BRI’s strategy to tap into a high-potential market, driven by growing trade volumes and remittance flows between Taiwan and Indonesia.
The branch was inaugurated on Friday, Aug 8, 2025, in a ceremony attended by BRI President Director Hery Gunardi, BRI Director of Treasury and International Banking Farida Thamrin, and Arif Sulistiyo from the Indonesian Economic and Trade Office (KDEI) in Taipei.
Hery said the new overseas branch is designed to strengthen the role of Indonesian migrant workers (PMI) as drivers of regional economies.
“As the only Indonesian bank branch in Taiwan, BRI Taipei Branch is ready to become a comprehensive banking hub, especially for the 360,000 PMIs working in Taiwan, offering remittance, savings, and investment services for their future financial planning,” Hery said in a press release.
Comprehensive Services and New Initiatives
BRI Taipei Branch offers integrated financial solutions ranging from savings and lending products to remittance services. New initiatives include an Advance FX Licence to facilitate foreign exchange transactions and BRI ATM cards compatible with Taiwan’s banking network.
Hery added that the branch is also envisioned as an investment gateway from Taiwan to Indonesia, offering competitive investment yields to attract Taiwanese investors.
KDEI Taipei Head Arif Sulistiyo said BRI’s presence could deepen Indonesia–Taiwan economic relations. Taiwan hosts nearly 400,000 Indonesians—the third-largest diaspora after Malaysia and Saudi Arabia—most of whom work as caregivers or factory workers.
Factory workers earn an average of 28,590 New Taiwan dollars (NTD) per month (about Rp 14 million), while domestic workers earn around 20,000 NTD (about Rp 10 million). Between 4,000 and 6,000 new PMIs arrive in Taiwan each month, sending home over Rp 40 trillion in annual remittances.
Digital Banking and Savings Products Coming Soon
Licensed since 2021 as a Full Retail Foreign Bank Branch Office by Taiwan’s authorities, BRI Taipei offers a full suite of banking services, including deposits, loans, remittances, trade finance, and treasury operations.
Looking ahead, two new products will be launched. BRImo Taiwan, a super app for mobile banking, will enable customers to conduct transactions—including remittances to Indonesia—anytime, anywhere. BRI Taipei Future Saving, a time deposit program in NTD, will offer installment saving schemes over 12, 24, or 36 months.
Part of a Global Network
The Taipei branch adds to BRI’s network of international offices, which includes BRI New York Agency (BRINYA), BRI Singapore Branch (BRISG), BRI Hong Kong Representative Office (BRI HKRO), BRI Timor Leste Branch (BRITL), and BRI Cayman Island Branch (BRICIB).
